Great for the Diego collectionAug 14, 2009

My son loves "Go Diego Go" and had a tiny little plastic tapir (1") to play with which drove me crazy. This was a perfect substitute and he quickly recognized who it was. Perfect!

I love tapirs and bought this toy as a treat for myself. It really brightens my day! The face is adorable, I love the shape of the legs -- the pose of the feet is more realistic than the photo shows -- and the slight give of sand in the belly makes it very hugable too. As for educational: just a few days after its arrival, I was delighted to explain what tapirs were to a friend who saw it sitting on my bed. The tag gives quite a bit of information too, describing the different kinds of tapirs in the world, which is nice.
It is a little smaller than 8". It is closer to 7" but I find its diminutive size very charming.
My only concern is that the seam running down the face is pulled a little tight and I'm not sure how long it will last. (I will definitely be repairing it with my sewing kit though!) Also the white fur gets dirty pretty quickly, but after all that is rather realistic. :)

My little one seen a Tapir at the San Diego Zoo and has loved them ever since. We went to another zoo with a Tapir, but it had no Tapirs in the gift shop. We also seem to collect stuffed animals that get to sleep in my little one's bed. The Tapir was a welcome addition. It's not large by any means but it's not too tiny either. It's a very nice Tapir.
